Working with human subjects can be tricky business, but luckily for
us, you will not be poking or prodding any of your research subjects (so
there should be minimal risk to those you plan to interview, survey, or
experiment with).
With that said, it is still
critical that you disclose information to the human subjects you are
working with. Universities have developed an Internal Review Board (IRB)
system to make sure researchers comply with local, state, and federal
ethics standards. As students who are in a first-year writing course,
you do not have to complete IRB training to work with human subjects,
but it is critically important that you disclose your intentions in
writing to the people you are working with.
Please review the following information provided by Colorado State University:
http://writing.colostate.edu/guides/page.cfm?pageid=1426
Upon
reviewing the link above, you are tasked with developing an informed
consent disclosure form to give to any participants you are studying.
The site above gives plenty of information about what should appear in
your disclosure form. Participants should sign the form and return it to
you. You should provide each participant with an additional copy
if said participant wants it for his/her records.
If your research involves textual analysis and you are not working with human subjects, please write a detailed outline about how your textual analysis will work.
I recommend you create your disclosure form as a word document and then paste it into the text box of this blog space.
Here is another link to a Google Images page that has many examples of Informed Consent Forms:

My project is all about alternative fuels. I am trying to find out what the benefits and negatives to each of the most popular fuels are. I am using many university studies and many other reliable sources including the U.S. department of energy. I am trying to cover every angle to prove which fuel would be the a most likely alternative to the current most common fuel.
The purpose of this study is to show which fuel, if the world had to switch today, would be the best alternative. This would prove, if all fuel ran out right now, all of the best choices we have while trying to keep everything the same, if not better.
All of the pieces that I am using to make this study are all reliable sources from high-end university studies, and other government information.

Individuals I chosen for this study are former NFL athletes. There are two main groups of retiree’s used, those who have filed for bankruptcy and those who haven’t. The two qualifications for the former athletes who haven’t declared bankruptcy is that their financial status and success is unquestioned and their information is available online. It’s important that the financial status is unquestioned because there are athletes that have once been bankrupt and later successful which could potentially place them in both categories. Those individuals were not considered. The status of being bankrupt for an ex-player may be different than that of a regular citizen and is acknowledged. For the purpose of this study the act of filing for bankruptcy as a former professional football player exhibits their level of financial distress and is used as the main participation factor. As long as the bankruptcy filing is publicly known and can be verified there is no other qualifications. To achieve a large enough sample the ex-NFL players used included but were not limited to the individuals highlighted in Pablo Torre’s article and the Broke documentary. The bankrupt participants include: Vince Young, Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis, Raghib Ismail, Johnny Unitas, Warren Sapp, Duece McAllister, Lawerence Taylor, Terrell Owens, Andre Rison, Bernie Kosar, Luther Ellis, Dan Marino, Terry Long, Billy Sims, Raymond Clayborn and Archie Griffin. The non-bankrupt ex-athletes include: Rod Smith, Chafie Fields, Don Davey, John Elway, Daniel Wilcox, Brad Benson, Rosevelt Colvin, Jarvis Green, Jessie Armstead, and Ken Ruettgers.
